WATCH: Athea trainer Eoin McCarthy looks ahead to Limerick Christmas Racing Festival

West Limerick trainer McCarthy has enjoyed a memorable 2025 to date

LIMERICK racehorse trainer Eoin McCathy has had a 2025 to remember. 

Athea-based handler McCarthy was leading trainer at the Listowel Harvest Festival in September, saddling an impressive six winners over the week, including recording a first ever treble on Friday's card.

McCarthy was also short-listed for the National Hunt Achievement Award at this week's 2025 HRI Awards.

The West Limerick man rode 26 winners as a jockey and began training under a restricted licence in 2011. While he saddled winners in the point-to-point field, his first success as a trainer on the racecourse came at odds of 40/1 when the Kevin Brouder-ridden Pound A Stroke won at the Templemore Handicap Hurdle at Thurles on November 2017.

McCarthy is looking forward to the upcoming Mr Binman Limerick Christmas Racing Festival where he will have a number of runners over the four days at Greenmount Park.

Leader Sport caught up with Eoin McCarthy at his Athea base where he spoke about his memorable 2025 to date and his prospects for the upcoming Limerick Christmas Racing Festival.
