Residents in Drombanna have called for a footpath to be extended from The Four Elms pub up to a nearby junction in the village
AN application for funding has been made to carry out road safety works at Drombanna.
Council priomh-chomhairleoir Catherine Slattery made a visit to the village which is just a 10 minute drive from the city, after hearing from local businesses and residents.
She was joined by John Sheehan, a roads engineer with Limerick City and County Council.

“The business owners and residents explained their fears for the area. They wanted the footpath extended from the Four Elms pub up to the junction in Drombanna as there is a HSE house in the vicinity and as there is no footpath or lighting exiting the HSE house making it very dangerous,” she highlighted.
Cllr Slattery has confirmed an application for funding to the National Transport Authority (NTA) has been made for these projects.
She said if money is put in place, the projects will take place across this year and next.
“The first scheme will consist of a footpath going towards the city up as far as McCarthy’s boreen on the opposite site of the road. Lighting and road markings with accommodation works if needed will also be put in place,” confirmed the priomh-chomhairleoir of the first scheme.
She added: “The other scheme will consist of getting permissions from landowners and will consist of a footpath from the Four Elms up as far as the junction - also lighting and road marking will be installed.”
Cllr Slattery hopes it will provide a much needed boost for Drombanna.
“People in the area will have a footpath to walk on which will bring much needed safety when walking and also the extra lighting will have a great impact in the area because with extra lighting the place is lit up and pedestrians and car users have better vision and hopefully car users will slow down also,” the Fianna Fail councillor said.
“We cannot forget rural areas as these areas have a lot of people living in them that need to be safe when walking and driving,” added Cllr Slattery.
