GARDAI in Limerick have teamed up with management at the Milk Market to provide a patrol of the premises every Saturday.
Thousands of people come to shop at the landmark facility at Cornmarket Row in the city centre every Saturday morning.
Now, gardai will be on hand to provide information and support if its required between 10am and 2pm.
The new initiative gets under way on Saturday, September 16.
Superintendent Andrew Lacey, Henry Street garda station said: "It's an opportunity for us with the footfall that's here in the market and the focal point it is in the city for our members to meet and greet and for members of the public to speak with us, get some advice, to have a general chat in and around policing issues they might have in their particular area."
It's hoped gardai will also be able to provide information to visitors to the city, with the Milk Market being one of Limerick's top tourist attractions.
After 2pm each Saturday, officers will then spend a few hours on the beat around Limerick city centre afterwards.
