THE SUCCESS of the hurlers has come up in conversation at every gathering in Limerick over the last few weeks.
And the launch of the Limerick Show in main sponsor AMCS’ headquarters in Ballysimon on Monday evening was no different.
Richard Kennedy, show chairman, said they will have the Liam MacCarthy Cup on show day on Sunday, August 27 in Limerick Racecourse just like last year. Young and old will be able to get a photograph holding the cup aloft.
“It is beyond our wildest dreams for a fella like myself following Limerick all my life to see this golden era with the hurlers. It is great to have Liam MacCarthy coming again to Limerick this year,” said Mr Kennedy, who hopes to build on the success of last year and put on another “family day for town and country”.
Minister for State Pippa Hackett officially launched the show, saying agricultural shows play an important role in the social calendar of the farming community and the Limerick show is no different.
Mayor Ger Mitchell said the journey of the Limerick Show has been one of evolution and growth, a reflection of the innovative spirit that Limerick embraces.
“From majestic horses to prized cattle, from exquisite crafts to cutting-edge technology, the Limerick Show stands as a vibrant tapestry of our city and county's talents
“As we gaze upon the achievements of our past and the promise of our future, let us remember that this event is a culmination of the efforts of countless individuals, a reflection of our shared commitment to progress and unity,” said Mayor Mitchell.
The importance of show sponsors, including AMCS headed up by Jimmy Martin, and the support of the government was highlighted by show president Leo Walsh.
He said it had been a tough year for shows with the cancellation of Newcastle West Show but hoped for a fine day on August 27.
