WATCH: Mythical creature spotted at TUS Gaelic Grounds ahead of All-Ireland quarter finals

A UNICORN is a legendary creature that only exists in the mind or in emoji format.

That was until the day the weather broke and rain came pouring from the sky only for this mythical creature to reappear at the TUS Gaelic Grounds this Friday.

Rewind to a balmy June 11 when Limerick and Clare lined out in the Munster SHC final, a battle that was never going to be an easy feat for either team, Clare having taken the spoils by one point in the round robin phase and Limerick gunning for that all important five-in-a-row.

“When Limerick were apparently out unless Tipperary lost to Waterford and if we beat Cork, obviously the Clare lads thought it would never happen. So I said it will, I've every faith in our team. We will be in the Munster Final. So from there it was tenfold on banter,” Trish Ryan said.

The Banner County supporters had every confidence that the Mackey Cup was going home with them but the Dromin Athlacca native wasn’t prepared to give up hope and so began a different battle, one with her Killaloe friend, Gavin Power.

“He said put your money where your mouth is and let's make a bet. I don't bet with money so I said let's make it interesting. If Limerick win you walk up from Supermac's to the gates of the Limerick champions in a unicorn suit waving the Limerick flag with your Clare jersey underneath,” she told Limerick Live. placeholder image

If Limerick win you walk up from Supermac's to the gates of the Limerick champions in a unicorn suit waving the Limerick flag with your Clare jersey underneath,” she told Limerick Live.

If Limerick lost, Trish would have had to don the Clare jersey, wave a Clare flag and walk around the Ennis Road stadium.

On a damp Friday evening, that snow white, rainbow tailed, magical horse like creature paraded along the roads of Limerick, Limerick flag in hand, cars beeping in awe, mystified by what was before their very eyes.

As Limerick face into the All-Ireland semi-final, Trish is quietly confident that Liam McCarthy will be coming back again this year.

“We will win our 4th All-Ireland this year. Yes we are without our captain for the semis and obviously Seán Finn is a loss. But sure, look at the panel every man is just as good as the next. Shout out to our clubman David Reidy too. Luimneach abú,” she added. placeholder image

There’s murmurs in the air that these two hurling enemies, on field foes and hard battling neighbours could meet again in that all important Final in Croke Park.

“Clare are good and hopefully we might just see them in the final, where there will be another bet, if the Clare man is willing,” she chimed.
