PUPILS in a county Limerick school ended their school year with an exciting visit from some of Limerick’s hurling heroes.

The pupils of Croom National School were visited by Limerick senior hurlers Cathal O’Neill, Adam English and Colin Coughlan on Thursday morning. The trio took part in the morning assembly and presented students with the weekly awards for Star of the Week, Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine and Active Person of the Week.

Vice-principal Patrick Wallace led the 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils in a rendition of ‘Dreams’ by the Cranberries, the unofficial anthem of the Limerick senior hurling team, to wrap up the assembly. The players then visited each classroom individually, signing jerseys and spending time with the pupils.

The visit came about through a connection with a parent, Robert Twomey, at the school. According to school principal Emmett Murphy: “the kids were absolutely mesmerised that their heroes were giving them their award for Star of the Week, Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine and Active Person of the Week, etc. They were all delighted.”

“Cathal O’Neill then said a few words, he wished the kids all the best for the summer, he was great,” Mr Murphy continued. “The kids went back to classes and the lads, Adam and Colin and Cathal, gave us great time. They split up and they went to each class to sign jerseys and hurleys and sliotars. So a great morning, the guts of about two or three hours they were here in the school, it was fantastic.”
