'There will be good days and bad days': Limerick City TD Brian Leddin acknowledges he will not retain his seat

Green Party TD reflects on his four-and-a-half years in office

GREEN Party TD Brian Leddin, whose election five years ago made history in Limerick City, has acknowledged he is unlikely to retain his seat.

According to unofficial tallying, it looks likely he will poll 1,753 votes putting him off the pace in the race.

Despite this, he believes his re-election campaign was the best he has ever been involved in.

"I've had such a good team. I'm very proud of them, proud of myself. We were swimming against the tide, we knew that, and I think that's reflected in the tallies we saw earlier and will be announced shortly," he told Limerick Live.

Mr Leddin believes he has left his mark on Limerick and the Mid-West since his election, initially as a councillor in 2019, then as a TD the following February.

"I've introduced some thoughts and idees that I hope others will pick up now, and they are real deliverable projects for our region. I think I have had a good impact on the national level," he said.

"This isn't a day to be sad. It's a day to reflect on what I think was a wonderful five years," Mr Leddin added.

He said his entry into politics was "unexpected" and added he will continue advocating for Green policies.

"Long before I thought of getting into politics, I figured the progress I wanted to achieve for my city and my country would take 30 years. Unexpectedly I got into politics. I am really proud to have had that opportunity, and I count myself immensely fortunate to have been able to influence the direction of the country in the last few years," he said.

He added: "It is a long long struggle and we will keep going. There will be good days and bad days. We will have better times again."
