WATCH: Limerick manager Jimmy Lee reflects on 'disappointing' league defeat to Clare

Limerick senior footballers suffered a 1-21 to 1-12 reverse at the hands of their Munster rivals in Rathkeale on Saturday evening

LIMERICK senior footballers' hopes of gaining promotion to Division 2 of the Allianz Football League were severely dented with their disappointing 1-21 to 1-12 defeat to Clare at Mick Neville Park on Saturday night.

Indeed Limerick have a battle on their hands to secure their Division 3 survival as a third defeat in five league fixtures sees the Shannonsiders sit second-from-bottom in the league table, three points ahead of basement side Fermanagh and a point adrift of both Sligo and Wexford who have a game in hand on Jimmy Lee's charges.

Next up for Limerick is a Sunday, March 15 meeting with Westmeath at TEG Cusack Park in Mullingar, 2pm.

Clare led Saturday night's league clash with Limerick in Rathkeale by six at half time – 1-11 to 1-5 – with the first-half goals coming from Limerick captain Cillian Fahy and influential Clare corner forward Mark McInerney.

The visitors outscored their hosts 0-10 to 0-7 in the second half to seal a deserved victory.
