LIMERICK'S senior footballers will be playing Division 3 football next year after they fell to a 3-10 to 2-7 defeat to Kildare at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.
The result also relegated Clare with Limerick set to travel to Ennis this weekend in what is now a 'dead rubber' fixture. Limerick were far from their best in the first half but a James Naughton goal 15 minutes from time got them back into the contest.
However, Kildare immediately responded with their second three pointer of the game. Cillian Fahy did nab a second goal for Mark Fitzgerald's charges but it was ultimately not enough as Darragh Kirwan sealed victory for the Lilywhites deep into added time.
Fitzgerald praised his players for the second half performance when talking to the media at the full-time whistle but lamented that first half showing.
