'Give me a sign': Major update in recovery of Limerick boxer Lee Reeves

A FRIEND of Limerick boxer Lee Reeves has revealed that he’s scheduled to undergo an operation to aid him in his recovery.
The much-loved 31-year-old has been in hospital since he was knocked out in a fight in the 3Arena, Dublin, on Saturday, August 1.
Former boxer Jonathan O’Brien, who is a good friend of Lee’s and the Reeves’ family, shared an update in a post on social media this Friday morning.
He told his followers that he had spoken to Lee’s father, Tony, and his sisters last night, and they were able to share progress in Lee’s recovery journey.
“They were trying to do an operation on Lee the last week or two but he kept getting infections, chest infections and stuff like that,” Jonathan explained.
“We think now, please God, today they will do the operation.”
He explained that the procedure will “put a plate back in Lee’s head where he had to get the skull removed to release the pressure from the brain from the trauma of the boxing”.
“We’re just waiting to see does he go in this morning,” Jonathan added, explaining that it would be “a big help and a big start for Lee to go forward for his recovery”.
Lee will have to “start all over again”, Jonathan said, with walking, talking, “everything”.
He shared another positive update, explaining that Lee’s dad was with him a few days ago and said to him, “Look Lee, son, if you’re in there, give me some kind of a sign. Blink”.
Lee blinked.
Jonathan added that, though this is “amazing” progress, it is going to be “a long, long road for Lee”.
He thanked everyone for there support and asked for people to “keep pushing” the GoFundMe page to help cover Lee’s recovery costs.
