FRIENDS of Limerick boxer Lee Reeves are seeking help in aiding his recovery.
The much-loved 31-year-old has been in hospital since he was knocked out in a fight in the 3Arena, Dublin, on Saturday, August 1.
Former boxer Jonathan O’Brien, who is a good friend of Lee’s and the Reeves’ family, shared an update in a Facebook post with his wife, Emma.
“We are looking for a neurologically-trained physiotherapist and a neurologically-trained nutritionist for our friend, Lee,” explained Emma.
She added that Lee is in “the vital stages” of rehabilitation.
“He’s not doing very well, but he is doing very well,” she continued.
“It’s going to take time,” Jonathan added.
Emma continued: “There’s so many people on here that know Lee with huge profiles, and we need you lot to share this information to try and help us along this journey and try and help his family find these super, super professional people that they need.
“We also want so many more of yous to be sharing his GoFundMe page because, I’m sure many of yous know, this rehabilitation is going to cost a lot of money.”
“Every single little penny helps,” she added.
The amount currently raised stands at over €110,000.
Lee is known far and wide for his kindness and support of important causes, one of which is Limerick Treaty Suicide Prevention.
This is reflected by the amount raised thus far and hundreds attending a vigil in Limerick city for the Roxboro native.
Emma explained that Lee’s family want to keep his dignity and privacy: “They want to keep hope and faith that Lee will come through this, but it’s going to take a really, really long time.”
In a post shared on Friday, September 4, Jonathan told his followers that, when he and Emma visited Lee in hospital, he opened his eye “just a little bit”.
“It’s tough to see Lee like that,” he added. “I know Lee going out running, jogging, wanting to go to a gym, and then seeing him lying in the bed like that... to be honest with you, that hurts to watch. It hurts to look at young Lee like that, it kills me.”
He asked everyone to “keep the prayers going for Lee and his family... and keep pushing on that GoFundMe page”.
“It’s going to be a long, long road for Lee to recovery, a very, very long road.”
