Joe Canning says ‘not my team’ as RTE viewers baffled over Sunday Game Hurling Team of the Year

Legendary Galway hurler and RTÉ pundit Joe Canning tweeted a pic of the team and said ‘for your information, not what I picked as my team of the year’
After a disappointing Sunday for Galway fans who were left scratching their heads after a demolishing job by Limerick, The Sunday Game on RTÉ did not soften any blow.
As is ritual, the hurling team of the year is chosen on the Sunday Game after the All Ireland final, with the final sometimes skewing some of the inclusions.
A total of 10 Limerick players were named in the programme’s Team of the Year.
Nickie Quaid, Sean Finn, Barry Nash, Diarmaid Byrnes, Will O’Donoghue, Kyle Hayes, Cian Lynch, Hegarty, Aidan O’Connor and Cathal O’Neill were picked by the panel. It tops off an excellent year for those 10 players who could all be in line for All-Star’s.
However, following the programme, tribesmen and women took to social media to express their bewilderment at Galway’s Darach Fahy and Tom Monaghan not being included in the 15 chosen by the RTE panelists.
Even Joe Canning himself took to X stating that ‘for your information, not what I picked as my team of the year’
Others on social media added: “Tom Monaghan is in contention for player of the year in my opinion but doesn’t make Sunday Game’s team of the year”
Another added: “Darach Fahy has been excellent all year and pulled off some excellent saves today too - deserves a spot in my opinion”
Limerick proved to be a class above Galway at Croke Park, with the Tribesmen unable to match their opponents' relentless intensity or find the fluency that had characterised much of their season.
The victory, Limerick’s 13th, seals a historic, flawless clean sweep of silverware this season. Having already captured the Munster League, the Allianz National League, and the Munster SHC title, the Treaty men saved their most complete performance for the biggest stage of all.
