CATHAL O’Neill has been named the Sunday Game’s Man of the Match after an exceptional performance that helped Limerick to their sixth All-Ireland win under John Kiely.

The Crecora-Manister club man fired in 1-4 during the 11-point win that capped off Limerick’s year. Two other Limerick players were in the funning, captain Cian Lynch and Patrickswell teammate Aaron Gillane were the other two players up for the award but it was given to O’Neill.

O’Neill scored two points in the first half and followed it up in the second period with a goal and another two points that saw him edge his teammates for the award.

Meanwhile, Gearóid Hegarty was named the Sunday Game Player of the Year after a stellar campaign throughout the 2026 Championship.

The St Patrick’s club man was exceptional today, in the semi-final and in pretty much every game that Limerick played this year.

Although he didn’t manage a score in either the semi-final or final, his impact on the game was a constant. He is firm favourite to win further gongs down the line.

Elsewhere, 10 Limerick players were named in the programme’s Team of the Year. Nickie Quaid, Sean Finn, Barry Nash, Diarmaid Byrnes, Will O’Donoghue, Kyle Hayes, Cian Lynch, Hegarty, Aidan O’Connor and Cathal O’Neill were picked by the panel. It tops off an excellent year for those 10 players who could all be in line for All-Star’s.
