Magic of the Movies comes to St Mary's Cathedral for one night

ICO leader, Katherine Hunka and accordionist Dermot Dunne to perform Magic of the Movies on October 6, at St Mary’s Cathedral

SOME OF the world’s most loved movie scores will be brought to our doorstep, as Irish Chamber Orchestra and accordion-violin duo Dermot Dunne and Katherine Hunka deliver The Magic of the Movies, this October.

On October 6, St Mary’s Cathedral will be a haven for soundtrack history, chronicling music from the Hollywood golden era to the scores of today.

In conjunction with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, which is resident at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, accordionist Dermot Dunne and violinst and ICO leader Katheine Hunka will perform a string of familiar works. Notable pieces include the thrilling, iconic tones of Bernard Hermann’s Psycho; Il Postino by Luis Bacalov; Jean Claude Petit’s “exquisite” score to Jean de Florette; the poignant melodies of John Williams’ signature theme from Schindler’s List, which will be performed by Ms Hunka.

Johnny Greenwood’s influential Suite arrangements from There Will Be Blood will prove to be one of the highlights of the evening, which will be performed by powerful string section on the night.

Adding to the nostalgia, the ICO will deliver Nino Rota’s The Godfather and the richly cinematic Cinema Paradiso, by Ennio Morricone. Tickets range from €10 to €25. Show starts at 8pm.
