Bishop's Quay in Limerick will host a Dawn Mass this Easter Sunday
THE FIRST light of Easter will be celebrated with a Dawn Mass at 6.15am this Sunday.
It’s being led by Fr Derek Leonard, the Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Church, at O’Connell Avenue in the city centre.
All are welcome to join the celebration, which is to take place at Bishop’s Quay, immediately adjacent to the Shannon Bridge.
“We'd be gathering in darkness and during the Mass we will be there for the first light of Easter. It will be celebrating the Lord's Resurrection which is all about light,” Fr Leonard explained.

It’s doubly appropriate to hold a dawn Easter Mass there, given there is a dedication to John Paul II commemorating his visit to Limerick in 1979.
The first year the parish of St Joseph’s has organised the sunrise Mass, churchgoers from the neighbouring parishes have been invited.
Fr Leonard hopes it will become a yearly event.
When he was serving in Corbally, he organised a dawn Mass at Athlunkard Boat Club.
