Soldier Field returns to UCH following successful run across Ireland

Soldier Field returns to Limerick's UCH on Friday, October 31, to honour rugby legend Anthony Foley

FOLLOWING successful runs across Ireland, the acclaimed play, Soldier Field, returns to Limerick paying tribute to Munster rugby legend, Anthony Foley, while also celebrating one of Irish rugby’s most iconic moments.

The play arrives in the University Concert Hall, on Friday, October 31. Soldier Field tells the emotional story of Ireland’s first-ever test victory over New Zealand in Chicago in 2016.

Written by best-selling author and playwright Pat McCarry, the play follows eight passionate Irish fans and four key players, Conor Murray, CJ Stander, Rob Kearney, and Andrew Trimble, capturing the intense build-up and unforgettable match that defined a generation.

The play also honours the legacy of Anthony “Axel” Foley, who tragically passed away in Paris just before Munster’s Heineken Cup game in 2016.

Foley’s teammates famously dedicated their win over Glasgow Warriors a week later to him, and less than a month after his death, Irish players paid tribute at Soldier Field during the historic match against the All Blacks.

Brought to life by the Sallins Dramatic Society from Kildare, the production has received critical acclaim and standing ovations on previous tours.

It’s a timely return to Limerick, where rugby fans can relive the drama and pride surrounding the landmark victory ahead of Ireland’s rematch against New Zealand in Chicago the very next day.

Proceeds from Soldier Field support Orla’s Wild Ways, a charity founded by Foley’s sister Orla, which raises funds for the Mid-West Cancer Foundation, CRY Ireland, and the Irish Rugby Charitable Trust.

“Soldier Field is an amazing play that truly encapsulates the emotion surrounding Ireland’s historic win over New Zealand, while honoring my brother’s legacy,” says Orla Foley. “It’s not just about rugby – it’s about connection, resilience, and the power of community.”

Tickets for the show are now on sale at uch.ie. For those unable to attend, donations can be made online via Orla’s Wild Ways.
