Kaya Scodelario has praised an Irish author for their ‘beautifully written’ novel during a GQ video.
The actress, best known for her role as Effy Stonem in Skins, recently played alongside Theo James in the new Netflix series, The Gentlemen.
While sharing the 10 things she couldn’t live without for British GQ, Kaya spoke highly of Dublin author, Paul Murray and his latest book, The Bee Sting.
“I've just finished The Bee Sting, which was amazing. I kind of tend to prefer to read books by females authors, but this one's actually really got a great storytelling of the female experience and it's beautifully written,” she said.
In March, The Bee Sting won the inaugural Nero book of the year prize.
Through 650 pages, Paul’s new novel tells the story of a rural Irish family, The Barnes, who are in trouble.
Dickie's car business is going under, but instead of doing anything about it, he's out in the woods preparing for the actual end of the world. Meanwhile, his wife Imelda is selling off her jewellery on eBay and half-heartedly dodging the attentions of fast-talking local wrongun Big Mike.
Their teenage daughter, who is usually top of her class, seems determined to drink her way through the whole thing. And their twelve-year-old son is spending a lot of time on video game forums, where he's met a friendly boy named Ethan who never turns his camera on and wants him to run away from home.
