In Pictures: Scottish Bard Robert Burns celebrated in Limerick

LIMERICK'S 19th Robert Burns night was celebrated last week to mark the birthday of the popular poet.

Burns is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide on January 25.

There was music, poems and traditional Scottish food and drink at the night, which marks the birthday of the iconic poet.

Organiser, Clarina man Michael Potter, compered the event and a number of Scottish residents from Limerick, including former councillor John Loftus read some of Robert Burns work.

As has become tradition, Gordon Lessels read the 224-line long epic poem, the Tam O’Shanter.

Mr Potter founded the event with his friend, the late Noel Flannery.

The event, at Dolan's in Limerick city, was free of charge with Mr Potter playing tribute to the generosity of the public for their kind donations and to a number of companies, who provided sponsorship to help run the annual event.
