LIVE TRACKER: Hurricane Nigel latest for Ireland as Met Eireann issues update

Hurricane Nigel will come close to Ireland in the next few days and his outer bands may impact our weather with heavy rain and strong winds, according to forecaster.

A tracker on the windy.com website shows the effects of Nigel hitting Ireland on Saturday morning. You can watch the tracker below.

"The good news is Nigel has decided to head towards Iceland rather than Ireland with just the outskirts hitting us," Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said.

Met Éireann has not issued warnings as Nigel takes a detour north but their latest update shows his impact on our weather.

While Friday night will be mostly dry and calm, "a spell of rain will sweep across the country during the late morning and afternoon on Saturday accompanied by blustery southerly winds," they said.

They predict "strong at times around coasts," with temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees.

The rain will clear Saturday evening with a few showers lingering about the coasts.
