Limerick-raised actress, Ruth Negga
LIMERICK-raised actress Ruth Negga has garnered much praise online for her appearance in the new hit TV thriller series, Presumed Innocent.
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as protagonist Rusty Sabich, Oscar-nominated actress Ms Negga plays his wife, Barabara Sabich.
In the eight-episode series, Mr Gyllenhaal plays a chief deputy prosecutor suspected of a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney's office.
Ms Negga, an only child, was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where she lived until she was four. She grew up in Dooradoyle and went to national school in Roxboro.
It is understood that she later spent part of her secondary school career at Scoil Carmel on O'Connell Avenue, before completing her drama studies at Trinity College Dublin.

The full eight-episodes of Presumed Innocent are out now and people online have labelled Ms Negga’s performance as “wow”.
One person posted to X (formerly Twitter), saying: “No surprise at all Ruth Negga is absolutely crushing it, as she holds the weight of the show’s emotions on her shoulders, balancing a deep sadness but tenacity that she exhibits so well as a performer.”
Another person wrote about the Love/Hate actress: “Ruth Negga is the best part of Presumed Innocent. An Oscar-nominated actress who deserves much bigger roles going forward”, while someone else chimed in, saying “Ruth Negga is incredible. What a performance!”.
Presumed Innocent was also executively produced by Jake Gyllenhaal and is an Apple TV+ limited series.
Alongside Ms Negga in the star-studded cast includes Bill Camp (The Queen's Gambit), Elizabeth Marvel (House of Cards), Peter Sarsgaard (Dopesick) and O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid's Tale).
