Treaty United launch new community team to strengthen connection with Limerick

Treaty United Football Club has announced the formation of its new Community Team, reinforcing the club’s commitment to strengthening connections across Limerick and the wider Midwest region.

The Community Department will be led by Marion McGuane, Community & Engagement Manager, and Shane Ryan, Community and Schools Engagement Officer.

Together they will oversee a range of programmes designed to bring the club closer to schools, grassroots organisations, families and supporters throughout the region.

In a press release issued this week, the club said: 

"At Treaty United, football is about far more than what happens on the pitch. The Club’s Community Department exists to strengthen the relationship between the club and the people of Limerick by using football as a powerful platform to bring people together, inspire young people and support the wider community.

"The department will lead a variety of initiatives aimed at making the club accessible and meaningful to people of all ages and backgrounds. These include school visits, community events, football camps and coaching clinics, as well as fundraising initiatives that help support both club programmes and important local causes."

The club’s school engagement programme will see players and coaches visit classrooms across the region, promoting healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and the importance of education. These visits will help young people connect with the club and see local players as positive role models within their community.

Throughout the year, Treaty United will also deliver football camps and coaching clinics designed to provide young players with opportunities to develop their skills in a positive and inclusive environment. These programmes aim not only to develop football ability but also to build confidence, friendships, and a lifelong love of the game.

The Community Department will also work closely with local organisations, charities and grassroots clubs through community partnerships and fundraising initiatives, ensuring that Treaty United remains a club that truly represents its community.

Marion McGuane, Community & Engagement Manager, will lead the development and delivery of the club’s community engagement strategy, working with schools, community organisations, and local stakeholders to expand the club’s impact across the region. 

Supporting this work, Shane Ryan will focus on delivering the club’s schools engagement programme and community-based activities, acting as a key link between the club and local communities while promoting participation pathways and club initiatives. 

Speaking about the initiative, Ian McMahon, Managing Director at Treaty United said the new team reflects the club’s ambition to ensure football remains a positive force within the community.

"At its heart, Treaty United is a club built by its community, and the Community Department is about giving back to that community while creating opportunities for young people and families to connect with the club."

Upcoming Community Activities:

Upcoming school visits are scheduled for Knockainey, Patrickswell, St. Mary’s (Limerick), Ardagh, Castleconnell and Our Lady Queen of Peace, Roxboro.

In addition, Easter Camps will take place at Manor Fields (Adare) and TUS Moylish, Limerick City, offering young participants the opportunity to develop their skills in a fun and inclusive environment.

Details of our Summer Camps will be announced soon, with programmes planned across a range of clubs and facilities in Clare, Tipperary, and Limerick.
