Madelyn Robbins, of Treaty United
TREATY United suffered a frustrating 2-0 defeat to title-chasing Shelbourne in their SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division fixture at Tolka Park on Saturday afternoon.
A goal in each half from Roma McLaughlin and Mackenzie Anthony proved the difference between the sides as Sean Russell's side came away from their trip to Dublin empty-handed. The defeat leaves Treaty United in fifth place in the table.
Treaty might have taken an early lead, but Madelyn Robbins shot was saved by Shels’ ‘keeper Amanda McQuillan.
Shels’ hit the front when Anthony headed the ball towards goal which eventually flicked home by McLaughlin for her first goal since March.
Treaty finished the half much the stronger and had a chance to equalise when the lively Robbins broke clear.
She then cut the ball back towards Katie Lawlee, but her effort was off target.
Into the second half and Madison McGuane created an opening, before the move broke down. Bella Flocchini reacted quickest to the rebound, but her effort was saved by McQuillan.
Shels’ incresed their lead and ultimately wrapped up the win with less than 15 minutes remaining when Anthony bundled home their second goal.
Next up for Treaty is a home fixture against Peamount United at the Markets Field next Saturday, September 27 at 3pm.
