LIMERICK past meets Limerick present at the Markets Field this Saturday afternoon as the Limerick Ladies squad, who are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their Ladies FAI Cup victory, are guests of honour as the present Women’s Senior Soccer standard-bearers in Limerick, Treaty United, take on Galway United in a crucial SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division game.

Back in 1975, the Limerick Ladies side captured the Ladies FAI Cup courtesy of a 2-0 victory over C.S.O. of the Civil Service League adding the national cup to their national League titles of 1973 and 1974.

Eight of that dominant Limerick Ladies side went on to represent their country at Senior level. That Cup winning achievement of 50 years ago will be the subject of an exhibition which will be taking place from September 11 to October 31 in the Limerick Museum, Old Franciscan Friary on Henry Street, but this Saturday they will grace the Markets Field stadium.

They will be in attendance as Treaty United’s host Galway United with Sean Russell’s side looking to continue their recent good form with four wins and one draw (against League leaders Athlone Town) in their last five games.

Only two points separate the two sides and a victory for the home side would see them leapfrog the Tribeswomen into fourth place.

Aside from their strong league position, the current Treaty United side still have the opportunity to emulate the heroes from 50 years ago as they look forward to a Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup semi-final date with Bohemians in Dalymount Park on September 13th

Kick-off at the Markets Field is at 3pm.
