Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett
TREATY United manager Tommy Barrett was disappointed after his side fell to a last-gasp defeat to Wexford FC in the SSE Airtricity League First Division at the Markets Field on Frida night.
A scoreless draw looked the most likely outcome in the game until Wexford snatched victory with a dramatic late goal at the Garryowen.
Afterwards Treaty boss Barrett felt the final scoreline wasn’t a true reflection of the game.
“I thought we were the better team,” said Barrett. “But there’s no point in being the better team if you’re going to lose like that.
“It’s all about momentum and when you have momentum in the game, you have to take it by the scruff of the neck and win it. And if you can’t win it, you have to get a point at least”
It’s the second time this season that Treaty have suffered a last-gasp defeat having conceded three late goals to Cobh Ramblers on the opening night of the season. However, Treaty recovered by taking seven points from their next three fixtures.
They’ll be hoping to replicate the same levels of resilience for the next few games, starting with an away meeting with UCD next week. Barrett is reasonably optimistic ahead of that game.
“Yes, I believe we can win every game that we play in. That doesn’t mean we’re going to win every one, but certainly we can get something up in UCD whether it’s a draw or a win. But we’ll be going for the win.”
The Treaty manager provided a positive update regarding squad personnel. A few players are set to return including centurion Mark Walsh.
“Mark Walsh is injured but he should be ok next week, same with Fionn Doherty and Dean Owens. Valerii (Dolia) is also back training next week.”
