TREATY United bowed out of the Munster Senior Cup after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Premier Division Waterford FC at the RSC on Friday night.
The game came a week before Tommy Barrett's Treaty side kick-off their 2025 SSE Airtricity League First Division campaign with a home game against Cobh Ramblers at the Markets Field on Friday evening next, 7.45pm.
Friday night's quarter-final remained 0-0 at half-time, despite both sides creating a number of opportunities.
Cup holders Waterford then opened the scoring on 51 minutes when Conan Noonan scored from a corner kick.
The home side doubled their advantage mid-way through the second half when Ryan Burke headed home.
To their credit, Treaty United battled back from that body blow and were right back in the tie when debutant Dean Owens, who had just come on as a substitute, got behind the Waterford defence to score from a cross from another substitute Ptáček and make it 2-1.
Waterford then regained their two-goal lead on 80 minutes when Padraig Amond headed home for 3-1. Andrew Boyle then added a fourth goal for the home side when scoring with another header from a corner.
An alert Owens did grab his second goal of the game late on for Treaty to make it 4-2 at full-time.
The game also saw Treaty United debuts for Vojtěch Ptáček and Roy Lawlor who were introduced as second half substitutes.
Goalkeeper Corey Chambers made his 50th appearance for Treaty United in the game.
