The update comes as donations for Lee and his family are on the verge of reaching a major milestone of €100,000

LIMERICK boxer Lee Reeves has been taken off all medication and is being closely monitored by medical staff for any signs of improvement, a family friend has revealed, as his loved ones keep vigil at his bedside.

"There’s little bits of improvement but there’s not much guys at all," Lee's friend Jonathan O'Brien said in a video posted on social media on Friday afternoon.

The former professional boxer, who is now a trainer and manager, explained that he was clarifying information on the family’s behalf, on the condition of the Roxboro man, who suffered a heavy knockout during his bout against Gary Cully at Dublin's 3Arena last Saturday night.

"Lee is still in the bed, he’s still not moving," Jonathan continued.

"There’s still nothing. He’s been took off all the medication. He’s just lying there the last couple of days. And they’re doing everything they can to work on him."

Jonathan said Lee's family remain by his hospital bedside.

The update comes as donations for Lee and his family are on the verge of reaching a major milestone of €100,000 - with people from across Limerick and beyond contributing to help support them through this difficult time.

Jonathan, who set up the GoFundMe page, reiterated his appeal for people to continue praying for Lee and his family and to donate if they can. He also encouraged supporters to attend a special event taking place in Limerick city this Friday night.

Treaty Suicide Prevention has organised a Night of Hope for Lee, who has served as an ambassador for the organisation for many years.

The charity said Lee has spent years giving hope to others and that "now, it's our turn to give hope back".

The group invited the community to gather at Harvey's Quay in Limerick city as "we come together to stand with our ambassador, friend and colleague, Lee Reeves, and his family".

The vigil began at 7pm.
