Major Limerick venue receives Limerick Person of the Month Award

There are already six concerts announced for next summer at the stadium

THOMOND Park received the Limerick Person of the Month Award in recognition of the positive impact it has had on Limerick through its concerts and events.

Stadium director John Cantwell received the award on behalf of the stadium at a presentation ceremony at the Clayton Hotel in Limerick city on Thursday, November 5.

Mr Cantwell said he was “delighted” with the recognition for Thomond Park.

Speaking to Limerick Live, he said: “We're delighted with the recognition that this award really means in terms of all the work that we've done in terms of the team at Thomond Park, and I mean the off-the-pitch team in delivering concerts through the last 18 years really.”

“To get this is like just being able to say to the guys back at Thomond Park, ‘well done’, and other people see it and now it's being recognised,” he added.

Alongside being the home of Munster Rugby, the stadium as hosted a variety of musical stars through the last number of years.

From Ed Sheeran and Bruce Springsteen, to more recent acts like Lewis Capaldi and Shania Twain, Thomond Park has hosted an array of performers for the people of Limerick to enjoy.

There are already six concerts announced for next summer, with Take That, Robbie Williams, Amble and Kingfishr taking to the Limerick stage.

“We have to be mindful,” Mr Cantwell explained. “It needs to be a great night out every night. We just don't want to put on concerts for the sake of it. We're very grateful to MCD, our promoter, for delivering such high-quality acts and music performers over the last four to five years.”

He continued: “We want to be, not maybe bigger, but we just want the quality to be there all the time so that whether it's a match at Thomond Park or a concert, that people just have a really great experience and that people from Limerick don't have to travel to Dublin, don't have to put their hand in their pocket for hotels and things like that and can come down the road to see the best at Thomond Park.”

Mr Cantwell thanked Pat Whelan, chairman of Thomond Park, the directors, and all the team that have worked tirelessly throughout the past few years.

Thomond Park will proceed to the Limerick Person of the Year ceremony early next year, where the coveted award will be presented to one of the 12 monthly recipients.

The Limerick Person of the Month award is jointly sponsored by the Limerick Leader, media agency Southern, and the Clayton Hotel.
