Matt Keane is swapping life at Treaty United for League of Ireland newcomers Kerry FC
TREATY United have announced that Mark Walsh has re-signed for the club for the forthcoming 2023 SSE Airtricity League First Division season.
However, the club has also been dealt a blow with confirmation that Matt Keane is departing Treaty United to join league newcomers Kerry for their inaugural League of Ireland season under new manager Billy Dennehy.
In a tweet, Killarney native Matt Keane said he had enjoyed an 'unbelievable two years with Treaty United' and thanked the board, management, players and especially the fans of Treaty United 'made it such a memorable experience.'
"Some brilliant nights were had in the Markets Fields. All the best to the boys going forward," Keane added.
Mark Walsh, who will remain at Treaty United next season, was a member of the original 26-man Treaty United squad in 2021 and has been a vital part of the team ever since, moving between the roles of defensive midfielder and centre-back. Despite some spells out with injury, the Nenagh native has made 47 appearances to date.
Speaking to manager Tommy Barrett, he was glad to have Mark signed up for his third season with the club: “Mark is another very good signing for us and it’s important to have him around as you know what you get with Mark week-in, week-out and he is very well respected by the players and staff also.
"He can play in a variety of positions and is always dependable. He has taken to League of Ireland football brilliantly over the last few seasons which can be difficult coming back from junior football after a nine-year absence, but it’s a testament to Mark and how he looks after himself on and off the pitch. He is another very good role model for the younger players within the squad."
