This is a busy period for Limerick Desmond League soccer fixtures

Limerick Desmond League Premier Division League Cup, Group A

ABBEYFEALE Utd are through to the Weekly Observer Premier Division League Cup Semi Finals after winning three two at home to Broadford Utd on Friday night. Broadford opened the scoring on twenty minutes but just past the half hour Dylan Quirke had the sides level and that’s how things stood at half time.

On the hour mark Abbeyfeale were ahead for the first time when a screamer from Jamie O’Connor from thirty yards flew into the top corner.

Ten minutes later Tommy Smith stretched the home sides advantage and despite a second Broadford goal two minutes from time the hosts held on for the win. Abbeyfeale now go through as group winners and will play Rathkeale in their semi-final.

Next Sunday Broadford Utd will be at home to Newcastle West Town needing a win to get through to the semi-finals with the winners meeting Glin Rovers.

FAI Junior Cup

There was no joy for Dromore Utd as they exited the FAI Junior Cup at the third round stage when going down four nil away to Killarney Celtic who led two nil at half time.

Premier Division

It was back to the bread and butter of the league on Sunday and Rathkeale made it three wins from three with a three nil win at home to Granagh Utd. All the goals in this one coming in the second half from Pa Wilmott, Timmy Hogan and Darren Jones.

Glin Rovers would have made it three from three if they had won at home to Breska Rovers but the visitors had other ideas as they came from behind at half time to win three two for their first win in the premier division.

Jack Moroney put Breska ahead but Glin turned it around to lead two one at the interval with goals from Sheagh O’Connor and Paul Sheehan. Indeed, Glin could have had a healthier lead but missed a penalty when leading two one. Breska had a better second half and goals from Keith McNicholas and Darragh O'Sullivan gave them a notable win.

Division 1

In Division One Athea Utd’s excellent start to the season continued with win number six coming at The Vales against Shountrade. After a scoreless opening half Kevin Murphy put them ahead from the penalty spot, brother Darren made it two nil with Andrew O’Riordan rounding off the scoring, his third goal in as many league games.

At Pairc Eas Geitne Askeaton got a welcome three points with a four two win against Rathkeale B. Sean Whelan put the home side ahead with Stephen Smith soon doubling their lead before Smith turned provider when his corner was headed home by Sam Duggan.

Rathkeale got one back before the break when Keith Hartnett scored from the penalty spot. Into the second half and another Hartnett penalty hat the visitors back in the game with Askeaton having a player sent off in the process.

It was another penalty that would ultimately decide the outcome of the game and this time it was a spot kick for Askeaton which Sam Duggan converted after he himself was fouled.

Division 3

Breska Rovers B are into the top half of the table after coming from behind at half time to win three two at home to Feenagh. The visitors led two nil with a brace from Ray Ryan but by half time Orin Garvey had reduced the deficit and the same player equalized from the penalty spot early in the second half. The comeback was then completed with the winner from Evan McGregor.

Broadford Utd B have their first win in the league, a five one success at home to Carrig Celtic with a hat trick from Timmy Brosnan and one each from Killian Lynch and Paul Madigan. The Carrig scorer was Ciaran Alquadi.
