THREE Limerick dogs remain from the 24 greyhounds still in the running for the Ladbrokes Easter Cup in Shelbourne Park.
Slippy Cian, owned by the Full House Syndicate, won his first round heat in a time of 29.47.
Clonbrien Prince, owned by Kay Murphy in Athlacca, and Braveheart Bobby, owned and trained by Darren McCoy in Newcastle West, also making it through the first round heats last weekend in Dublin.
Four second round heats will be run on this Saturday night’s card, with the first three from each progressing to the following weekend’s semi finals.
As well as the Limerick trio, others to sparkle were Derby runner-up Magical Bale who posted the quickest time in the first round heats (29.45), with fellow 2018 Derby finalists Ballyanne Sim and Clona Blaze also among those to make it through to the second round.
Slippy Cian once again runs in the same heat as Ballyanne Sim this Saturday, with Braveheart Bobby and Clonbrien Prince also taking to the traps together.
The competition, ran over 550 yards, traditionally attracts the top Irish greyhounds in training, with this year’s winner receiving €25,000.
The Ladbrokes Easter Cup is one of 14 ‘Classic’ races in the Irish greyhound calendar and one of six to be held in Shelbourne Park, along with the Irish Greyhound Derby among others.
The final of the competition will be held on Saturday, March 9.
