Limerick hockey duo named on Irish training squad

Brian Gray, Bryan Smith, Sam lilburn and Jill Storey

Sam Lilburn and Bryan Smyth, both students at Villiers School N.C Road, have been selected onto the Irish U-18 and  and Irish U-16 panels respectively for forthcoming friendly International matches against their English counterparts between February 20 and 22.

The matches are being played at the English National Sports and Conference Centre of Lilleshall in Shropshire. Both students were selected onto the National training squads following successful showings at the Interprovincial Championships held in Cork last September and have worked hard ever since at National Training squad sessions held in Dublin and Banbridge, to fully justify their selection.

The photo above shows both Sam and Bryan along with Villiers head Coach Brian Gray and Villiers School Principal Jill Storey, with the Munster Senior Cup , which Villiers are attempting to retain for an impressive 3rd year in a row.

They meet Ashton School from Cork in the Final - venue and date yet to be finalised, having beaten Newtown School Waterford - the All Ireland Champions -  in the 1/4 Final,  and Bandon Grammar School recently in the Semi Final.
