St Francis' Kevin Sheehy is expected to enter the heavyweight category this weekend
THE draw for the 2019 Irish Elite championships take place this Friday morning and there are set to be several limit names on the list.
The ‘Elite’ finals attract the best of the best to the capital with several titles down for decision.
The Limerick fighters to top the bill over the weekend will be mainly in the Welterweight and heavyweight division.
Paddy Donovan (OLOL) will be fancied to leave his mark this weekend as he goes into (at the time of going to print) an eight man draw for the 69kg title.
Donovan will be joined in the eight by Michael Kinsella (St Anthonys/St Pats), Dean Walsh St Ibars/St Josephs , Kieran Molloy (Oughterard), Aaron Daly (Castlebar), Fergal Redmond (Arklow), Luke Maguire (Esker) and Conor Ivors (St Francis).
The potential for an all Limerick fight between Ivors and Donovan would be worth the entry fee alone.
“The elites have been my goal all year” admitted Donovan this week.
“I have been training hard for this one and my body is in good health. The pressure will come on me alright, but I am looking forward to that challenge” the multi Ireland champion concluded.
Another name to look out for is Kevin Sheehy. The St Francis boxing club fighter, like Donovan, has Olympic games ambition and could enter the Elites this weekend with a real chance of winning.
Other fighters making trip are Tommy and Myles Casey. The brothers could even fight one another, in the Bantamweight draw.
