NEW GARDA Commissioner Justin Kelly’s visit to the Limerick Garda Division was his first regional visit since his appointment in September, Limerick Live has learned.
Garda Commissioner Kelly sat down with senior gardai and took in a rugby match in Dooradoyle between the Irish Police v Scottish Policy. Four Limerick gardai proudly represented their country in a resounding victory over their Scottish counterparts.
A garda spokesperson said Garda Commissioner Kelly met with colleagues, including new probationers and local management, to “acknowledge the excellent work being carried out in the region and the challenges moving forward”.
He sat down with senior gardai - Chief Superintendent Derek Smart; Limerick Superintendents Michael Fleming, Oliver Kennedy, Andrew Lacey; Inspector Oliver Nally, as well as Assistant Commissioner Eileen Foster and Trudy Davenport, Assistant Principal.
Garda Commissioner Kenny also attended the rugby clash.
“We are always happy to support gardaí on the field - the teamwork skills are great preparation for the job and sport helps support the physical and mental wellbeing of members,” said a garda spokesperson.
