Royal Ascot plan for long-term absentee Ghostwriter

Royal Ascot plan for long-term absentee Ghostwriter

Ghostwriter is being aimed at gaining Royal Ascot revenge on Rebel’s Romance, as he prepares for a starring role among Kevin Philippart de Foy’s string this summer.

The five-year-old, who commanded £2,000,000 from Amo Racing’s Kia Joorabchain before finishing third behind Charlie Appleby’s globetrotter in the Hardwicke Stakes last summer, is yet to debut for his new trainer.

However, the Newmarket-based Belgian is excited to get the former Royal Lodge winner and Group One-placed Ghostwriter back on track having shelved ideas of international action over the winter months.

“We are working back from Royal Ascot and the horse is looking fantastic. We forgot about any winter targets to make sure we get it right for the summer,” said Philippart de Foy.

“I’m not sure where he will start and he could have a prep run but the Hardwicke will be the target.”

Philippart de Foy is also hopeful of an improved showing from Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf fourth Cathedral on her next outing when she runs over Guineas weekend at Newmarket.

“Cathedral got beat on her return, but my fillies are a bit behind and will improve for the run,” he continued.

“She will head to Newmarket for the Dahlia Stakes and we also have plenty of nice two-year-olds as well so fingers crossed.”
