First-half goals from Adebola Oluwo and Daniel Udoh boosted Salford’s automatic promotion hopes with a 2-1 win at Oldham.
The Ammies took advantage of Notts County and Swindon dropping points to climb to fourth, a point outside the top three, on the back of an impressive first-half display.
Oluwo struck early, heading the visitors in front after only four minutes when he climbed to meet Luke Garbutt’s free-kick.
Udoh doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time, finishing well from Ryan Graydon’s header.
Graydon had the chance to hit Oldham on the break and add a third early in the second half, but he instead squared to Udoh, whose bundled shot was saved by Matthew Hudson.
Oldham were all but mathematically out of the play-off picture going into the game but still showed plenty of fight and pulled a goal back through Josh Hawkes’ glorious chip, but it was no more than a
consolation.
