Airdrie hit back to dent Partick Thistle’s title bid

Partick Thistle saw their slim William Hill Scottish Championship title hopes further dented after relegation battlers Airdrie fought back to snatch a late 2-2 draw.

With leaders St Johnstone not in action, Partick were looking to close the five-point gap but fell behind when Chris Mochrie fired Airdrie in front after 36 minutes.

The Jags were level five minutes into the second half following an own goal by Mochrie and completed the turnaround when Aidan Fitzpatrick put them ahead in the 57th minute.

However, Airdrie fought back to grab what could be a crucial point in their battle to avoid automatic relegation with a last-minute equaliser from Lewis McGrattan.

Partick are now four points behind St Johnstone, who can clinch the title by winning their game in hand against Dunfermline on Tuesday.

Bottom side Ross County beat Ayr United 2-1 to close within a point of Airdrie.

The Staggies took an early lead through Ryan Duncan and though Anton Dowds equalised just before half-time, Alex Iacovitti headed home with 20 minutes left.

Play-off bound Arbroath beat Raith 2-1 at Gayfield Park with goals from Jacob MacIntyre and Findlay Marshall.

Kai Montagu hit a late consolation for Rovers, who are five points off the play-off places.

Morton played out a goalless draw with Queen’s Park, who had midfielder Scott Martin dismissed in the 57th minute for a second caution.
