Ryan Stirk snatches late point for 10-man Chesterfield at Fleetwood

Ryan Stirk grabbed a late a point for 10-man Chesterfield in their 1-1 draw at Fleetwood.

The hosts led midway through the second half through Ched Evans after centre-back Kyle McFadzean had been sent off. However, Stirk struck in the 89th minute to snatch an unlikely draw for the play-off hopefuls.

With minimal chances in the first half, Fleetwood went closest after 17 minutes. Ethan Ennis’ cross caused havoc in the box and both Evans and Mitch Clark both saw attempts blocked on the line.

With little more than an hour played, James Bolton lofted a ball in behind for Ronan Coughlan and last man McFadzean’s foul was enough to see him dismissed.

Five minutes later, Coughlan picked out Evans in the box and he produced a thunderous finish via the inside of the post.

Goalkeeper Ryan Boot kept the Spireites in the match, saving from Coughlan, Clark and Jordan Davies as Fleetwood pushed for a second.

His opposite number Jay Lynch was then powerless when a half-cleared free-kick fell to Stirk and his shot went through a crowd of players and into the net.
