Harry Gray nets fluke goal as relegated Rotherham pile pressure on Leyton Orient

Harry Gray’s fluke opener helped fire relegated Rotherham to a 2-0 League One win at Leyton Orient, who are winless in six games and still not safe from the drop themselves.

Sam Nombe also netted as interim manager Lee Clark, having almost missed kick-off due to a delayed train, finally tasted victory at the sixth time of asking.

Rotherham ended a run of seven consecutive away matches without scoring when 17-year-old on-loan Leeds forward Gray delivered a right-footed cross from the left which bounced through the Orient defence and into the far corner in the 24th minute.

Orient’s best chance fell to Sonny Perkins, who blazed over when the ball broke to him in a promising position after Charlie Wellens’ jinking run into the box, just before the break.

Rotherham threatened again when Dan Gore’s shot from just outside the penalty area whistled wide of the right-hand post.

Top scorer Nombe then made sure of the points in the 73rd minute, sweeping James Clarke’s lay-off into the bottom corner.
