Rotherham relegated after heavy defeat to Wigan

Rotherham were relegated to League Two after going down to a 3-0 defeat to Wigan, who took a step closer to securing their League One status for next season.

Lee Clark’s side will play in the fourth tier of English football for the first time since 2012-13 next term, while Latics are now eight points above the relegation zone with just three games of their campaign remaining.

It was the hosts at the Brick Community Stadium who were comfortable for most of the evening, with goals from Jason Kerr, Joe Taylor and Callum Wright securing Wigan’s third straight win.

Gary Caldwell’s side opened the scoring in the 14th minute as captain Kerr headed home from close range, sending his side into the half-time interval 1-0 ahead.

The hosts came out firing in the second half, with star man Taylor converting an incredible through-ball from Matt Smith to make it 2-0 after 59 minutes.

The Latics got their third just three minutes later thanks to a bit of luck, with Wright’s shot taking a big deflection to lob Millers keeper Ted Cann.
