Alex Revell urges Stevenage to keep believing in play-off bid after another win

Alex Revell says the belief is starting to really flow at Stevenage after a 1-0 win over Blackpool boosted them back into the Sky Bet League One play-off places.

Harvey White’s strike through a crowded penalty area in the 66th minute was enough to settle a contest between two sides wanting to win, and perhaps also needing to.

With games running out, it kept Boro ahead of the chasing pack.

“We’ve got six games left to just keep producing performances like we have done over the past few weeks,” said the Stevenage boss. “Even away to Rotherham on Friday, we should have come away with something because we missed some chances.

“But we just made sure that this team is as confident as it can be and have real belief. That’s the biggest thing that’s going to get us through.

“The players have to believe; these wins help us do that.”

Chances were at a premium at Broadhall Way but it was the home side who had most of them, and it was three points that Stevenage were worthy of according to the boss.

“If you took away maybe the first 15 minutes, we absolutely deserved that,” Revell said.

“We created chances, worked extremely hard for each other and were really positive, especially in the second half.

“I felt we started to grow (late in the first half) and had chances that we should take.

“But after half-time, we were on the front foot and had the belief, and as soon as the goal went in, I just felt the belief grow even more and we started to see a really top performance.”

Blackpool are on the other side of the coin, though.

Exeter’s 3-0 win over Doncaster leaves them staring over their shoulders, with the gap to the bottom four now just two points with four games to go.

And manager Ian Evatt was disappointed with his side’s bravery on the ball.

He said: “We competed and we battled and we fought like we knew we had to, but it was a game of very little quality on a difficult, dry pitch and we resorted to their style, really direct set-plays.

“We didn’t try and pass enough and we didn’t show enough courage to get the ball.

“And when you take a team on at their own game, you’re not going to win.

“I don’t think there was anything in the game and I’m disappointed after the run of clean sheets that we conceded a sloppy goal.

“I don’t think we created enough. We had one or two moments first half and then hit the post in the second half, but the game was always likely to be decided by a set-play.

“And I’m disappointed with how we dealt with the second phase (for the goal), because we had largely dealt with them all.”
