Boreham Wood brush aside lowly Gateshead to boost promotion bid

Boreham Wood bounced back from last week’s defeat by Enterprise National League promotion rivals Halifax by brushing aside lowly Gateshead 3-0 at Mangata Developments Stadium Meadow Park.

Having shipped late on to lose 3-2 to Halifax, the Wood hit the front in the 12th minute through Leon Ayinde, who collected Ted Curd’s kick forward, shrugged off his marker and slotted home.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 38th minute when Zak Brunt’s teasing ball to the back post was unwittingly turned into his own net by Fenton John as the Wood went in at the break two goals up.

They took just 24 seconds into the second half to add to their tally as Ayinde pulled back to Brunt, who got on the score sheet by rifling past Gateshead goalkeeper Adam Desbois.
