Former Barnsley forward Elliot Lee returned to haunt his old side as Doncaster moved five points clear of the Sky Bet League One relegation zone with a 1-0 win.
The only goal of the game came from a penalty, with Lee calmly slotting the ball home to give Rovers the bragging rights in this south Yorkshire derby.
The away side had the better chances in a quiet first half, first through a long-range Glenn Middleton strike and then from Jack Senior, who could only head wide from close range.
Barnsley started the second half brightly and both David McGoldrick and Reyes Cleary missed good chances early on.
They were made to pay when Rovers were awarded a penalty for a foul on Hakeeb Adelakun by Corey O’Keeffe.
Lee made no mistake from 12 yards to give his side the lead in the 65th minute.
Patrick Kelly almost levelled late on but his smart back heel was excellently clawed out of the bottom-left corner by the Doncaster goalkeeper.
