Michael Skubala: Lincoln’s draw at Huddersfield could prove to be massive point

Lincoln boss Michael Skubala thinks his side’s 2-2 draw at Huddersfield could prove to be a “massive point” come the end of the season.

Ryley Towler’s stoppage-time goal increased the Imps’ unbeaten League One run to 21 matches.

Ryan Hardie and Ryan Ledson had put the Terriers 2-0 up after 19 minutes, before Josh Feeney’s own goal reduced the deficit before the break.

Towler popped up for the leaders in the fourth minute of stoppage time to preserve their long unbeaten run, and Skubala said: “I am really proud of the lads with the way they dug in and kept pushing for the goal.

“It was an incredible performance from the group to get that point.

“It wasn’t like us going 2-0 down. We started a bit slow, but when we got going we got the goal back and we thought we could dominate in the second half.

“To come here and have a team like Huddersfield sitting off you is huge respect to the lads, but we have to be better than that.

“Lots of things didn’t work in the first half, we looked too open, but then in the second half we got on top and I felt we were going to score that second. I think that might be massive point for us.”

Skubala had words of praise for hero Towler, adding: “Ryley has been great when he has come in. The one thing he needs to do is believe in himself a bit more. He’s got great quality and he did a great job for us when he came on.”

Huddersfield manager Liam Manning lamented two points dropped at the death.

He said: “I am disappointed for the lads as in terms of attitude, desire to run, to compete and the aggression we showed, the composure we had at times, I thought the lads gave everything.

“It was a lot better for us, especially in the first half. They are extremely difficult to play against, but I thought we caused them some problems.

“The second half showed we can suffer and we are willing to defend and do the ugly side of the game. We were four minutes away from a really good result.”
