Oldham cut gap on play-off places with victory at Chesterfield

Kane Drummond scored twice against his former club as Oldham improved their play-off hopes with a 3-0 win at fellow play-off hopefuls Chesterfield.

Another former Spireite, Mike Fondop, also found the back of the net in a convincing victory.

It was a strong attacking performance from Oldham and Drummond opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, meeting a Jack Stevens cross and controlling the ball before firing it low into the net.

Fondop made it 2-0 in the 31st minute, neatly chipping Zach Hemming after a long ball forward from goalkeeper Mathew Hudson.

Poor defending led to a third goal for the visitors in the 74th minute. Oliver Hammond, in plenty of space on the right, squared to Drummond and he tapped in at the far post.

Chesterfield created few chances in the game. Armando Dobra had an effort saved and James Berry also put a shot on target.

Oldham, who are unbeaten in their last eight games, move to within four points of Chesterfield with two games in hand.
