Relegation-threatened Gateshead get the point at Southend

Struggling Gateshead earned a 1-1 draw which did nothing for Southend’s Enterprise National League play-off hopes.

Andrew Dallas brilliantly gave Southend a 21st-minute lead, running on to Harry Boyes’ long pass and lobbing goalkeeper Adam Desbois first time from the corner of the penalty area.

Charley Kendall missed a good chance to make it two and Oliver Coker went close on three occasions but Gateshead equalised on the stroke of half-time when Brad Nicholson headed in Keaton Ward’s corner.

Kendall shot just wide late on but despite two late Gateshead penalty appeals being turned down, the 19 travelling fans were left to celebrate a point.
