Michael Cheek brace keeps Bromley on track for promotion

Bromley extended their League Two unbeaten run to 16 games with a hard- fought 2-1 victory over 10 man Accrington Stanley that stretched their lead at the top of the table to four points.

Ollie Wright tipped an early Jesse Debrah header against the crossbar and Bromley’s task was aided when Donald Love received his marching orders after 15 minutes. The defender adjudged to have stamped on Michael Cheek.

With a numerical advantage Bromley worked a trio of opportunities, Wright did well to deny Corey Whitely, Cheek headed against the crossbar before Wright did even better to palm away Omar Sowunmi’s header.

Wright could do nothing about the opening goal however as Cheek slammed home a penalty to give Bromley the lead.

The lead did not last long however, Dave Abimbola heading home a long throw to ensure the two sides went in level.

Bromley retook the lead seven minutes after the restart, Cheek slamming home another spot kick after Idris Odutayo had been fouled.

Stanley came close to an equaliser 20 minutes from time when Seamus Conneely’s deflected shot went wide but that was as good as it got for Stanley as the Ravens closed out the win.
