Cove and Hamilton boost survival bid with wins

Lewis O’Donnell score twice as Cove beat Montrose 3-1 at home to bolster their chances of survival in Scottish League One.

Reuben McAllister was also on target for the hosts in the first half as they went in two up at the break before Callum Sandilands got one back 18 minutes from time to give the visitors hope.

But O’Donnell’s second in the closing stages helped keep Cove out of the relegation play-off places.

They sit two points and one place above Hamilton, who had Oli Shaw to thank for their 1-0 win at home to East Fife.

In League Two, East Kilbride moved to the top of the table with an emphatic 6-1 win away against 10-man Elgin.

The home side had gone in front after 10 minutes through Mark Gallagher before East Kilbride hit back emphatically, John Robertson scoring twice whilst there were goals too for Sean Fagan, Connor Young, Bobby McLuckie and Jack Leitch.

Goalkeeper Tom Ritchie was sent off for conceding the penalty for Robertson’s second, East Kilbride’s fourth, to compound Elgin’s misery.

Spartans – who previously led the table – had their game against Forfar postponed allowing East Kilbride to leapfrog them at the top.

In the other surviving match, Clyde won 3-0 away at Stirling with goals from Scott Williamson, Robbie Leitch and Logan Dunachie to consolidate their place in third.
