Tyrell Sellars-Fleming effort enough as Grimsby edge Accrington

Grimsby brought themselves back to within a point of the Sky Bet League Two play-offs with a 1-0 win over Accrington at Blundell Park.

Tyrell Sellars-Fleming’s first goal for the Mariners was the difference as they made it nine games unbeaten in the league.

The hosts were dominant in the opening passages of the game and it was the on-loan Hull forward who had the early chances.

He got the ball stuck under his feet as he slid in to finish from close range just five minutes in, before he was denied excellently one-on-one by Stanley goalkeeper Ollie Wright, 15 minutes later.

Accrington could have nipped ahead before the break had Jackson Smith not denied Conor Grant’s on-target long-range effort.

Sellars-Fleming got his goal and a much-deserved opener for the hosts in the 58th minute, firing in off the near post from outside the box, cutting in from the left flank.

Devon Matthews was shown a straight red for a heavy challenge on Clarke Oduor in the 86th minute to cripple the visitors’ late push for an equaliser.
