Scunthorpe see off Forest Green in battle of promotion hopefuls

Scunthorpe came from behind to beat fellow National League promotion hopefuls Forest Green 3-2.

Rovers had taken an early lead through Ricardo Rees in the fifth minute after he raced on to a high through pass into the right side of the area and lifted the ball over Scunthorpe goalkeeper Rory Mahady.

Scunthorpe were back on level terms just before half-time when Danny Whitehall converted a penalty after he had been bundled over in the box and completed the turnaround five minutes into the second half through a fierce low strike from Zain Westbrooke.

Although Jili Buyabu fired in an equaliser for Rovers just before the hour, the Iron secured all three points with 15 minutes left when Carlton Ubaezuonu drilled home a third to extend their unbeaten run to seven league games and move fourth.
