Defender Kell Watts was an unlikely goalscoring hero with two goals as Cambridge won a 4-2 thriller against Tranmere at the Cledara Abbey Stadium.
The away side went ahead just before half-time when Dylan Jones headed in his first EFL goal following Patrick Brough’s cross.
Shayne Lavery equalised with an excellent finish on 58 minutes, just moments after he came off the bench, only for Tranmere to retake the lead five minutes later through a sub of their own.
Sam Finley picked out Charlie Whitaker and he fired a fine early finish into the far corner.
That lead only lasted four minutes when James Brophy ran into space on the right and picked out a perfect cross for Watts to score with a header too powerful for Joe Murphy.
The game turned in Cambridge’s favour for the first time 13 minutes from the end when James Gibbons’ shot from the right was headed past Murphy by Watts.
Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu then played in Ben Knight, who sealed the points six minutes into added time.
